Privacy Policy

1 Overview

Live Meeting Interpreter ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides real-time speech translation for online meetings on Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user. We are committed to full transparency.

2 Data We Do NOT Collect

The Extension does not:

Record, store, or transmit your audio or speech data to any server operated by this extension
Collect personal information such as your name, email address, or account credentials
Track your browsing history or meeting content
Use analytics, advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking tools
Share any data with third parties for commercial purposes
Sell user data under any circumstances

3 Data Processed Locally

The following data is processed locally on your device only:

Speech input: Your microphone audio is processed by the Web Speech API, a built-in browser API provided by Google Chrome. This is governed by Google's privacy policies, not this extension.
Meeting captions: Caption text from your active meeting tab is read solely to perform translation. It is sent to Google Translate and is not stored or logged.
Extension settings: Language preferences, TTS settings, and glossary entries are stored locally via chrome.storage.local and never transmitted externally.

4 Third-Party Services

Google Translate API: Recognized speech text is sent to the Google Translate public endpoint for translation — the same service used at translate.google.com. No identifying information is sent alongside translation requests. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Web Speech API: Provided natively by Chrome. Speech recognition may be processed by Google's servers as part of Chrome's built-in functionality. This is outside the control of this Extension.

5 Permissions Explained

Permission	Why it is needed
`storage`	Save language pair selection, TTS preferences, and glossary entries locally in the browser. No data is transmitted externally.
`sidePanel`	Display the translation interface as a Chrome side panel alongside the active meeting tab without obstructing the meeting window.
`tabs`	Detect when the user navigates to a supported meeting platform (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams) so the extension activates automatically.
`windows`	Manage the side panel window positioning relative to the active meeting tab.
`microphone` (Web Speech API)	Capture speech for real-time translation. Audio is processed by Chrome's built-in Web Speech API — not by this extension's servers.
`meet.google.com` `*.zoom.us` `teams.microsoft.com`	Inject the meeting bridge script that reads live captions from the meeting page for two-way translation and transcribe mode.
`translate.google.com`	Send recognized speech text to Google Translate public API for translation. No user-identifying information is included.

6 Children's Privacy

This Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
